How much does a website cost in Tanzania in 2026?
From TZS 300,000 template sites to multi-million-shilling shops with mobile money: what Tanzanian businesses pay for a website in 2026, what quotes leave out, and how to compare them.
Ask five web designers in Dar es Salaam for a price and you can easily get five answers between TZS 100,000 and 10,000,000. Most of that gap comes from what's included, not from the work itself.
Here is what the Tanzanian market looks like in 2026, so you can compare quotes with confidence.
What Tanzanian businesses are paying in 2026
These ranges come from published price lists and guides from Tanzanian designers and agencies, checked in October 2026. Dollar figures use about TZS 2,640 to the dollar.
| Type of website | Typical price | What you usually get |
|---|---|---|
| Basic business website | TZS 300,000 – 800,000 | A few pages, often from a template; hosting and domain sometimes extra |
| Professional business website | TZS 2,700,000 – 13,500,000 | Custom design, more pages, content help, better search setup |
| Online shop with mobile money | TZS 1,500,000 – 5,000,000+ | Products, cart, M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa or Airtel Money payments |
| Booking or custom systems | TZS 4,000,000 – 20,000,000+ | Reservations, staff accounts, reports: real software |
| Maintenance | TZS 10,000 – 50,000 a month | Updates and small fixes, depending on the provider |
Domain names are a separate yearly cost: roughly TZS 35,000 a year for a .com and TZS 25,000 for a .co.tz.
The costs most quotes leave out
- Domain and hosting — many design prices don't include them, so check the first-year total.
- Search setup — page titles, a sitemap, Google Search Console and a Google Business Profile. Without them, your new site is hard to find, even for your own name.
- Mobile money integration — accepting M-Pesa and other wallets takes proper work and testing.
- Swahili — a second language is more design work, not just translation.
- Content and photos — most quotes assume you'll provide finished text and images.
- Support after launch — sites that nobody maintains break, slow down or get hacked.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Is the design custom, or a template?
- Is the domain registered in my name?
- Are hosting and the security certificate included, and for how long?
- Will you set up Google Search Console and my Google Business Profile?
- What happens if something breaks a month after launch?
- Who owns the website and its files at the end?
- Is the price fixed in writing, and paid in stages?
How SHIF Studio prices for Tanzania
We work with Tanzanian businesses on East Africa Time, so calls and replies happen during your working day. We don't try to be the cheapest. Instead, every website includes what others charge extra for: custom design, search and Google Business setup, your first year's domain, hosting set up for you, and a free care period after launch, all in a fixed written quote paid in stages.
Our current starting prices in shillings are on our Tanzania page, and you can see our work here. If you'd like a second opinion on a quote you already have, send us a short brief — we'll tell you honestly what's missing.
